Taking Your Blood

Have you ever had a bad or a scary experience having your blood drawn?

Are you just afraid of needles or the sight of blood? It’s normal to be scared once

and a while. But I’m known to make it a fast, easy, and painless experience. Just

let me tell you, it doesn’t take a lot but only about three easy steps.

First I have to get my things together like two cotton balls, one alcohol wipe,

a needle, one bandage, a syringe, a tourniquet and the blood tubes you’ll going to

fill up with the patients blood. Oh yeah the last thing you need is a willing patient

and a chair to sit them in. Just make sure that the patient is sitting so just in case

they pass out, yes it does happen at times but no biggie they will be just fine in a

second or two and give them some orange juice it will make them feel better.

Then the next step is to locate the vein you’ll be drawing from put the

tourniquet tight on the arm and then with a quick move of the hand insert the bevel

of the needle into the vein and there you go you got blood and if not just move the

needle a little and then you will get some blood. Once you get blood then you’ll

start to fill the tubes you got ready earlier. It could be from one to maybe about

four tubes you’ll be filling. It only takes about two to three minutes. Once you are

done then remove the tourniquet.

Once you have removed the tourniquet then you will pull the needle out

quickly and place a cotton ball on the injection site and just put a little pressure to

stop the bleeding if there is bleeding. Once the site has stopped bleeding, then put

the bandage on and let the patient sit for about a minute or two and then they’re all

ready to go and you are all done and ready for the next patient and start all over

again. There’s nothing to it just in a day’s work.

So when you go again to have your blood drawn don’t be afraid just look for

me and if I’m not there then just remember we all try to do the draw as fast, easy,

and as painless as we can. If you still don’t feel comfortable having your blood

drawn then just close your eyes and count to five and then it will be all over.
